CHAT 11

CHAT 11 Hettie Judah on Art, Stones and Motherhood

Hettie Judah is chief art critic on the British daily paper The i, and a columnist for Apollo magazine. She is a regular contributor to Frieze, The Guardian, Art Quarterly, Art Monthly, ArtReview and other publications with 'art' in the title. Recent books include How Not to Exclude Artist Mothers (and other parents) (Lund Humphries, 2022) and Lapidarium (John Murray/ Penguin, 2022). She is currently working on a Hayward Gallery touring exhibition.  Gemma Brace is Exhibitions Producer at the Arnolfini, Bristol, and a freelance writer and curator, focusing on international contemporary and Modern British art.

Hettie Judah will talk to Gemma Brace about her two (very different) books published this Autumn.  One explores how human cultures have formed stone, and stone has formed human cultures:  the other delves into the art world’s problem with mothers.

After the talk, Hettie will be doing a book signing of both her new books.

Cedars Hall Arts Talks Series

We launched CHATS in response to Antony Gormley’s new sculpture DOUBT, on loan to Wells for a period of 18 months from the end of August 2021. These monthly talks will usually take place on Thursdays at 7pm in Cedars Hall, Wells Cathedral School. Subject to the speaker’s agreement audiences will be able to livestream the talks. Young musicians from Wells will perform in the auditorium before each talk. There will be an opportunity to continue the thought-provoking conversation after the talk with a glass of wine and food.

These talks have been curated by Sophie Rucker

CHATS is kindly supported by the Blair Foundation and Terence Mordaunt
